Australian Worm Farm

The Australian Worm Farm consists of two sturdy polypropylene boxes nested inside each other. The upper box has a perforated floor and a lid, and the lower box is fitted with a drain sprout. By having the worms in the top portion of the bin (kitchen scraps/organic waste is placed) the waste (liquid tea) filters through the perforated holes into the bottom bin that can be combined with water for use as a rich organic fertilizer. Vermicompost, or vermiculture, most often uses two species of worms: Red Wigglers (Eisenia foetida) or Red Earthworms (Lumbricus rubellus) rarely found in soil and are adapted to the special conditions in rotting vegetation, compost and manure piles.

An efficient, gravity-fed composting system. Kitchen scraps and garden waste start in the top chamber of this compost system, where beneficial fungi and bacteria handle the initial stages of decomposition. After 3 to 5 weeks, slide out the panel and let the contents move down into the cooler, second chamber. What kind of bedding can I provide my worms?

Kitchen scraps, lawn clippings and garden waste are the nitrogen-rich "green matter" in a compost pile. For efficient composting, they need to be balanced with carbon-rich "brown matter." Each of these compact bricks of all-natural coconut fiber (coir) expands to make about 2-1/2 dry gallons of carbon-rich, odor-free material. Layer it into your compost pile whenever you add fresh food scraps. Also makes good bedding material for worm composters. Each brick expands to 2-1/2 dry gallons Just add water to expand each brick
