Composting Worms and Worm Castings

Why worms? 

"Yard trimmings and food residuals together constitute 24 percent of the U.S. municipal solid waste stream. That's a lot of waste to send to landfills when it could become useful and environmentally beneficial compost instead!" (http://www.epa.gov/)
Worms can transform that organic waste into castings, a rich soil amendment, as they "eat", or process, about 1/2 of their body weight in waste everyday.  Composting means less mass in our landfills and these wonderful castings mean no use of petroleum-based fertilizers - for organic and sustainable gardening.  

Everyone can participate! If your space is limited, we have information on composting indoors, and on square foot gardening (see our Links page).
